Het is een groep van 8 vrouwen. Ze kennen elkaar al meer dan 30 jaar. Studeerden allemaal in Groningen en vormden een jaargroep van Albertus Magnus. Nog steeds zien ze elkaar als groep 2 keer per jaar. En telkens gaat het gesprek gewoon door alsof het nooit gestopt is. Vriendinnen voor het leven.
Nu, op deze prachtige zomerse dag, fietsen ze mee met Gerard Vonk, alias Jan Evert Scholten.
De Scholtens, vader Willem Albert en zoon Jan Evert, waren invloedrijke figuren uit de 19e en vroege 20e eeuw in Nederland, met name in het noorden van het land. Vader Willem Albert stichtte fabrieken in binnen- en buitenland (waaronder in Duitsland, Polen, en zelfs Rusland), en is daarmee de eerste echte multinational van Nederland. Zoon Jan Evert was ook een invloedrijk zakenman en daarnaast kunstverzamelaar, filantroop en politicus. Hij zette het werk van zijn vader voort, maar was daarnaast ook actief op cultureel en maatschappelijk gebied. De fietstocht voert deze leuke vrouwengroep langs een twintigtal objecten in en rond de stad Groningen. Objecten, die samen een indrukwekkend beeld schetsen van het leven van deze Scholtendynastie. Al met al een sportieve, boeiende en gezellige middag met uiteraard onderweg een gezellig drankje bij het Paterswoldse Meer!
