Samen met Anne Heleen, Nicole, Marcel, Sjoerd en Geert, mijn vijf collega’s van Flow&Go Foundation, ga ik in april weer naar Afrika. Weer een geweldig en inspirerend avontuur tegemoet! Als je meer over onze plannen wilt lezen kun je dat hier doen.
De reis van twee jaar geleden naar Zuid-Afrika heeft me ongelofelijk veel inspiratie gegeven. Een paar van deze ervaringen wil ik hier nog graag even met je delen:
Flow & Go in Zuid-Afrika, april 2014. Het is alweer bijna 2 jaar geleden, maar de ervaringen staan me nog helder voor de geest. Twee weken met de intensiteit van de brandende zon: felle kleuren, licht en vooral hartverwarmend! Een keuze maken tussen al die mooie momenten? Wat een onmogelijke klus, deze waaier aan impressies, deze wondermooie tijd! Ik til er graag drie ervaringen uit. 
Mijn eerste schat uit de schatkist is de wijze van elkaar begroeten. Niet simpel een handdruk, maar het liefst een echte berenhug. En dat elke dag opnieuw: je houdt elkaar stevig vast, kijkt elkaar diep in de ogen en geeft elkaar een welgemeend compliment; ‘fijn dat je er bent, wat heb ik gisteren genoten van die uitspraak’. De begroeting is geen sleetse routine, maar een echte en intense ont-moeting. Een gestold stukje tijd waarin haast en komende taken, gisteren en morgen overboord gezet worden en waarin alleen de aandacht voor de ander telt. Mindfullness als praktijk van elke dag!
De tweede juweel is de beleving van muziek. In alle culturen is muziek een belangrijke uiting maar in Zuid-Afrika staat muziek écht duidelijk op de voorgrond. Samen zingen en samen dansen zijn ongelofelijk belangrijk en ook hier geldt weer dat er ruim de tijd voor genomen wordt. Bijna elke sessie die we hadden begon met een gezamenlijk lied en als de kans zich ook maar eventjes aandient wordt er samen gedanst. Zelden heb ik me zo verbonden gevoeld!
En dan tot slot een herinnering van heel andere aard, maar ook nu weer een herinnering die me diep heeft geraakt. In een sessies met studenten hoorde ik het volgende verhaal van een van de vrouwelijke studenten: “het is prachtig – zeker voor vrouwen – om de kans te krijgen om te mogen studeren, er zijn niet al te veel plaatsen, je voelt je echt bevoorrecht! Maar tegelijkertijd spelen er ook ander aspecten mee: voor de hele familie, vader en moeder, broertjes en zusjes, soms zelfs de grootouders en ooms en tantes is een kind dat gaat studeren de kans op een beter leven, een kind dat gaat studeren brengt een betere toekomst in het verschiet”.
Maar . . . studeren is nog lang geen kans op werk! Slechts 20% van de afgestudeerde studenten krijgt een baan. Daarom brengt studeren voor veel studenten ook een loodzware taak met zich mee: niet alleen een prachtige kans op individuele (zelf)ontplooiiing, maar ook een zware verantwoordelijkheid op je schouders voor het welzijn van je hele familie! En er dan toch vol voor gaan, je volledig in de studie gooien, wat een power indrukwekkend!
